“Celebration”
World Cyanotype Day

March 2018

I owe my entire knowledge of alternative process to the photographers of Shootapalooza and World Cyanotype Day. I met them in Texas in 2015 and since then my life has been enriched with friendships and knowledge of all things photo greatly expanded. Here’s my contribution to their efforts called ‘Celebration.’

“Response“
A. Smith Gallery
Dec 22, 2017 – Feb 11, 2018
Johnson City, Texas

Jurors, Amanda Smith and Kevin Tully posed the question… “How do we respond? Many of us respond with anger. Many of us respond with disbelief. Many of us respond with indifference. Many of us respond with our cameras.”

They selected my image ‘Deflated’ as part of the gallery show.

In celebration of the gallery’s move to a new location a fundraiser was held. Two of my photos were included in the special one-night event, which I understand had a huge crowd. The first image was shot in Texas shortly “After the 2015 Plano River Flood.” The second image is “Land Yacht For Sale”… because it was. (see sign in back window)

“Balance” Viewpoint Photographic Arts Center
Dec 5, 2017 – Jan. 6, 2018

Three of my photographs were selected for inclusion in this group show by Juror, Jane Edberg, Professor of Art at Gavilan College. Her words, “In life, balance is the oft sought equilibrium of daily activities from menu planning, exercise, speaker output, tire maintenance, and checkbooks. It is the obviously necessary skill of the tight rope walker, bicyclist, ballet dancer and bowler at the line. As a principle of art and design, balance describes compositional arrangement such as symmetrical, asymmetrical or radial, but in broader understanding, artistic balance indicates the totality of elements working together for meaning and visual impact. Balance is in the internal tug of subjects vying for attention within the frame or the quiet push of opposing space or textures.”
